Vintage Sewing - Simplicity 5885 - beige 60s tie-blouse completed!

Back in March I started sewing a 1960s blouse from a vintage Simplicity pattern 5885.

Here is an earlier post with the pattern cover and a photo of my mock-up.

I had finished 90% of the sewing a month ago - but was stuck on the buttons.  I had talked myself into getting glass buttons for the project and found the perfect set in the right size from a marvelous Etsy Shop Orit Dotan.  I took some time to finalise my button choice and then there was the wait for postage.

But finally the little package arrived and I was very pleased regardless of the wait.  Aren't they pretty buttons?  At last I was able to sew in the buttonholes and attach the buttons.  I had completed my second sewing project for the year!

Below are some photos of the details of the finished blouse, including bust darts, bias bound sleeves and a button-down back.

And I wasted no time in wearing my new blouse out to work...

I think the blouse is a little big around the torso area so I may try to alter the pattern to make a few more blouses for office-wear.

  1. So lovely. It's only a problem when there is no one else around to help you get dressed in the morning. :P

    1. It's not too hard to get it buttoned up because I made the blouse a little big and I can get it on with all but the top two buttons done up.

It's been nice to actively be sewing again.

    1. Thank you. :)

I'm pretty pleased with how the blouse turned out. Have you been sewing much in the way of retro/vintage clothes or has your sewing been all reenactment based lately?

  4. I'm so glad you dropped in to have a read through the blog. :)

I have been a bit of a lazy seamstress in the last few years so I'm trying to build my skills up at the same time as building my wardrobe up!

Hopefully I'll have my skirt done to wear on Monday.

Do you sew at all spikeybombshell?
